Innovations in Learning Technologies for English Language Teaching

This publication shows  how learning technologies  have developed over time  and offers a different  approach to the uses of  learning technologies in the  language classroom.  Different lesson ideas can  be found so as to adapt them  to different contexts. It starts  by considering the following  contexts of language  learning: primary, secondary  and adult learners, then  different specialist areas:  Business English, English  for Specific Purposes and  English for Academic  Purposes, and finally the  assessment of language  using technology. Each  chapter embeds a number  of real-life case studies into a  framework of research. The  chapters show some of the  development of the field, and  a wide range of  technologies is covered.

The use of songs, rhymes and traditional stories  with repeated language structure can be an effective  classroom strategy for young learners. The internet can be a rich source of authentic oral models via  recorded songs, talking electronic books, podcasts and video clips that help learners with  pronunciation as well as acquisition and  reinforcement of new vocabulary. Audio recorders  such as Vocaroo or Online Voice Recorder can be used to reinforce the learning of traditional rhymes,  songs or even poetry. This is a creative way to use  phones in the classroom with young learners.

4th Year Highschool Students can use these devices to record themselves saying a tongue twister so as to practice plosive consonants and start practicing Phonetics and Phonology.
